Lash Extensions for Deep-Set Eyes: A Saskatoon Lash Tech’s Guide
If you have deep-set eyes, you know the struggle — your gorgeous eyes sit further back beneath your brow bone, and sometimes it feels like they get lost in the shadow. Standard makeup tricks only go so far, and regular strip lashes can actually make the problem worse by weighing your lids down.
That’s where professional lash extensions in Saskatoon come in. With the right curl, length, and mapping technique, lash extensions can bring deep-set eyes forward and make them the star of your face. I’m Julia Tran at Étoile Lash Studio, and after styling hundreds of lash sets for different eye shapes here in Saskatoon, I’ve learned exactly what works — and what doesn’t — for deep-set eyes.
How to Tell If You Have Deep-Set Eyes
Deep-set eyes sit further back in the eye socket, creating a more prominent brow bone. Here’s a quick test: look in a mirror from the side. If your brow bone visibly extends over your eyelid and your eyes appear slightly recessed, you likely have deep-set eyes.
Common traits of deep-set eyes include:
- ✔️ A prominent, defined brow bone
- ✔️ Less visible eyelid space when eyes are open
- ✔️ Eyes that appear smaller or more shadowed
- ✔️ Lashes that can get hidden under the brow bone
Many of my Saskatoon clients with deep-set eyes tell me they’ve tried everything — mascara, falsies, even lash curlers — but nothing quite opens up their eyes the way they want. That’s because most off-the-shelf products aren’t designed with your specific eye shape in mind.
The Best Lash Curl for Deep-Set Eyes
Curl selection is the single most important decision for deep-set eyes. The wrong curl keeps your lashes tucked under the brow bone where nobody can see them. The right curl lifts them out and forward.
What I Recommend
C curl or D curl extensions work best for deep-set eyes. Here’s why:
- C curl gives a natural-looking lift that opens the eye without looking dramatic. It’s my go-to for clients who want an everyday look that still makes a difference.
- D curl provides a stronger lift, pushing lashes away from the brow bone more dramatically. This is perfect for clients in Saskatoon who want that wide-awake, eye-opening effect.
I generally avoid B curls for deep-set eyes because they follow the natural lash angle too closely — your lashes just disappear under the brow bone again. One client came to me after getting B curls at another studio, and she said her friends didn’t even notice she had extensions. After switching to a D curl, the difference was night and day.

Lash Mapping Strategies for Deep-Set Eyes
A custom lash map is essential for deep-set eyes. I don’t use the same map for every client — your bone structure, lid shape, and natural lashes all factor in.
Open Eye Map
This is my most popular mapping style for deep-set eyes. I place the longest lashes in the centre of the eye, which draws the eye forward and creates the illusion of larger, more prominent eyes. Combined with a D curl, this technique works beautifully.
Doll Eye Map
For clients who want maximum eye-opening impact, the doll eye map uses consistent length across the centre with a gradual taper toward the corners. This creates a round, wide-awake look that counteracts the recessed appearance of deep-set eyes.
What to Avoid
Cat eye mapping — where the longest lashes are placed at the outer corners — can work against deep-set eyes. It pulls the visual focus outward and can make already recessed eyes look even more shadowed. If you love the cat eye look, I can create a modified version that still flatters your eye shape, but it requires careful adjustment.
Length and Volume Recommendations
Length
For deep-set eyes, I typically recommend 10–13mm lengths depending on your natural lashes. Going too long can actually backfire — heavy lashes droop downward and defeat the purpose of the curl lift. The sweet spot is long enough to be visible past the brow bone but light enough to hold the curl all day.
Volume
Hybrid or volume lash extensions tend to work better for deep-set eyes than classic sets alone. The added fullness fills in gaps that are more noticeable when eyes sit further back. A light volume set (2D–3D) can make a huge difference without feeling heavy.

Real Results from My Saskatoon Clients
Just last month, a client from the Evergreen neighbourhood came in specifically because she felt her deep-set eyes made her look tired — even when she was well-rested. She’d been using an eyelash curler and two coats of mascara every morning just to feel like her eyes were “open.”
After her first hybrid set with D curls and an open eye map, she texted me the next morning: “I looked in the mirror and actually saw my eyes for the first time in years.” That’s the kind of transformation that makes this work so rewarding.
Another client — a teacher near the University of Saskatchewan — chose a lighter classic set with C curls for a more subtle result. Even with a natural look, the difference in how her eyes appeared was significant. Her colleagues kept asking if she’d changed her skincare routine.
Maintaining Your Lash Extensions in Saskatchewan
Deep-set eyes don’t require any special aftercare beyond what I recommend for all my clients. Follow the standard lash extension aftercare tips — avoid oil-based products near your eyes, don’t rub or pull your lashes, and keep them clean with a gentle lash cleanser.
During Saskatchewan’s dry winters, a lash-safe humidifier at home can help your retention. The low humidity in Saskatoon can dry out adhesive faster, so keeping moisture in the air makes a real difference. For more seasonal tips, check out my dry winter lash care guide.
Refill appointments every 2–3 weeks keep your set looking full and fresh. I always reassess your lash map at each refill to make sure the style still works perfectly with your natural growth cycle.
