Lash Extensions for Downturned Eyes in Saskatoon

Beautiful lash extensions customized for downturned eyes at Étoile Lash Studio in Saskatoon

The Best Lash Extensions for Downturned Eyes in Saskatoon

Do your eyes naturally slope downward at the outer corners? You’re not alone! Downturned eyes are one of the most common eye shapes I work with here at Étoile Lash Studio in Saskatoon. The great news? With the right lash mapping and curl selection, we can create a beautifully lifted look that makes your eyes appear more open and awake.

I’ve been customizing lash extensions for different eye shapes for over five years, and downturned eyes are actually one of my favourite shapes to work with. Why? Because the transformation is so dramatic—clients often can’t believe the difference when they see their lifted, brightened eyes in the mirror.

What Are Downturned Eyes?

Downturned eyes have outer corners that angle slightly downward, below the inner corners. Sometimes called “droopy eyes” or “puppy eyes,” this eye shape can make you look tired even when you’re fully rested. Many of my clients from Stonebridge and Nutana come in specifically asking how to make their eyes look more lifted and alert.

Here’s how to tell if you have downturned eyes:

  • ✔️ Your outer corners sit lower than your inner corners
  • ✔️ You often look sleepy or sad, even when you’re not
  • ✔️ Winged eyeliner tends to droop or look uneven
  • ✔️ Eye makeup seems to “pull down” at the corners

If this sounds like you, don’t worry—the right lash extensions can completely transform your look!

Why Curl Selection Matters for Downturned Eyes

The curl of your lash extensions is the most important factor when working with downturned eyes. Standard B or C curls that look beautiful on other eye shapes can actually emphasize the downward angle of your eyes.

The Best Curls for Downturned Eyes

For my Saskatoon clients with downturned eyes, I typically recommend:

CC Curl: A slightly stronger curl than the standard C, perfect for mild downturning. It lifts without looking too dramatic.

D Curl: My go-to for most downturned eyes. This curl opens up the eye beautifully and creates that wide-awake look.

L and L+ Curls: These have a flat base with a dramatic lift—ideal for very pronounced downturned eyes or clients who want maximum lift.

Just last week, a client came in feeling frustrated because her previous lash set (from another studio) made her look even more tired. She’d been given standard C curls all the way across. Once I remapped her lashes with D curls and adjusted the placement, she was thrilled with how awake and lifted her eyes looked.

Custom Lash Mapping for Downturned Eyes

Beyond curl selection, the placement of different lash lengths across your eye makes a huge difference. This is where custom lash mapping becomes essential.

The “Lifted Cat Eye” Technique

For downturned eyes, I often use what I call a “lifted cat eye” or “doll eye hybrid” mapping:

  1. Inner corner: Shorter lashes (8-9mm) with a gentle curl
  2. Middle section: Longest lashes (12-14mm) with the strongest curl
  3. Outer corner: Medium lashes (10-11mm) that stay lifted—NOT the longest

By placing the longest lashes in the middle rather than the outer corner, we create a lifted, open appearance instead of pulling the eye downward.

What to Avoid

Traditional cat eye styles place the longest lashes at the outer corners. For downturned eyes, this can:

  • Emphasize the downward slope
  • Make eyes look droopy or tired
  • Create an unbalanced appearance

During Saskatchewan winters, when shorter days and cold weather already make us feel tired, the last thing you want is lashes that add to that sleepy look! That’s why I take extra care with eye shape analysis before every appointment.

Real Client Transformations

One of my regular clients from Evergreen has beautifully pronounced downturned eyes. When she first came to Étoile Lash, she was nervous because she’d tried extensions before and wasn’t happy with the result.

After analyzing her natural lash line and eye shape, I recommended a D curl with a modified doll eye mapping. The transformation was incredible—her eyes looked lifted, bright, and youthful. She’s been coming back for refill appointments every three weeks since then!

Another client, a university student, wanted a natural look that would open up her eyes for video calls and study sessions. I used a lighter CC curl with a subtle lift at the middle—she loved that it looked like her natural lashes, just more awake and defined.

Style Recommendations for Downturned Eyes

Not sure which lash style to request? Here are my top recommendations for clients with downturned eyes:

Best Styles:

  • Doll eye: Opens and lifts the center of the eye
  • Open eye: Creates width and brightness
  • Lifted cat eye: Modified to avoid drooping
  • Natural: Subtle enhancement with strategic curl placement

Use Caution With:

  • Traditional cat eye: Can emphasize downward slope
  • Dramatic outer corners: May look uneven

If you’re unsure, check out our guide to choosing the right lash style or simply book a consultation. I’m always happy to assess your eye shape and recommend the perfect look.

Maintaining Your Lifted Look

Once you have the perfect lash set for your downturned eyes, proper aftercare keeps them looking lifted and beautiful. Follow our lash extension aftercare tips to maximize retention.

A few extra tips specifically for downturned eyes:

  • Sleep on your back if possible—side sleeping can bend lashes at the outer corners
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes, which can distort the curl
  • Come in for refills before too many lashes fall out and the lift diminishes

FAQs About Lash Extensions for Downturned Eyes

What is the best lash curl for downturned eyes?
For downturned eyes, I recommend CC, D, or L/L+ curls. These stronger curls lift the outer corners and create an awake, open look. The specific curl depends on how pronounced your downturned shape is—during your lash appointment in Saskatoon, I'll assess your natural lashes and recommend the perfect curl.
Can lash extensions make downturned eyes look lifted?
Absolutely! The right lash mapping and curl selection can dramatically lift the appearance of downturned eyes. By using longer, more curled lashes in the middle of the eye (rather than the outer corners), we create the illusion of lifted, more open eyes. Many of my Saskatoon clients are amazed at the difference.
Should I avoid cat eye lashes if I have downturned eyes?
Traditional cat eye styles can actually emphasize the downward angle of downturned eyes. However, a modified 'lifted cat eye' or 'kitten eye' style can work beautifully by placing the longest lashes slightly before the outer corner. Check out our new client guide to learn more about customizing your look.
